Your journey begins as you bid farewell to Delhi and move in the direction of Udaipur. The most convenient way is a quick 1.5-hour flight, but if you prefer, you can also go by train or road based on your preference. When you arrive in Udaipur, you can feel the difference at once. Fresh air, pleasant scenery, and a calm, peaceful atmosphere greet you in this city of kings.
After checking into your hotel and taking some rest, head out in the evening to visit the famous Lake Pichola. A boat ride here during sunset is truly magical. You’ll glide past landmarks like Jag Mandir and the stunning Lake Palace, both shining golden under the soft sunlight. The gentle breeze, reflections on the water, and peaceful views make this a perfect way to begin your journey. Then, have a quiet dinner and sleep the night away.
After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, it’s time to dive into Udaipur’s rich history. First stop: the magnificent City Palace. This grand palace is a maze of courtyards, marble rooms, decorative balconies, and detailed artwork. You’ll learn about the royal families who lived here and enjoy stunning views of Lake Pichola from the top floors. Next door, and only a short walk away, is Jagdish Temple, a stunning Hindu temple constructed in the 1600s.
After lunch, head to Saheliyon Ki Bari, a lovely garden created for the royal ladies of the court. It’s filled with marble fountains, lotus pools, and charming pathways. You’ll love the calm and beauty here, a quiet spot in the middle of the city. In the evening, head to Fateh Sagar Lake. You can take a boat ride here as well or just sit on the lake with tea and street food. During sunset, the lakeside is dotted with romantic lights and locals. Head back to your hotel for dinner and an early night's sleep.
Your third day starts by driving to Sajjangarh Fort, or the Monsoon Palace. This was constructed on a hill and designed to monitor the incoming monsoon clouds. Now, one of the best places from which to see the city, lakes, and mountains as a whole, it is a worthwhile stop. Don't leave your camera behind, ideal for photographing! Then proceed to the Vintage Car Museum, which has an impressive collection of vintage cars once owned by the Udaipur kings.
From streamlined Rolls-Royces to classy vintage Cadillacs, it's a treat for anybody who loves vintage style. Go to Shilpgram, a village and rural crafts just on the outskirts of the city, in the afternoon. It has been constructed on the lines of a Rajasthani village and is full of manually made things such as pottery, fabrics, jewelry, and others. You can even catch sight of the artisans working or chance upon a cultural dance or musical show if you are lucky.
As evening falls, head to Bagore Ki Haveli by Lake Pichola for a live folk dance show. From colorful costumes to lively performances, the show offers a beautiful glimpse into Rajasthani traditions. It’s entertaining and heartfelt one of those moments you’ll remember long after the trip ends. After the show, enjoy dinner nearby and head back to your hotel.
It's your last day in Udaipur, so just let things be laid back. Have a laid-back breakfast and soak in the last few hours of the lake city. If you're leaving early enough, you may also stroll through the local bazaars such as Bada Bazaar, Hathi Pol, or Clock Tower Market. These are good spots to find souvenirs such as little paintings, printed documents, silverware, and traditional works of art.
You may also take a last walk on the lake or have a cup of coffee at a city-view rooftop café. Your cab driver will get you to the airport or railway station from where you can board a return train to Delhi after you have finished your packing.
